Care that fits the way you live
Care That Fits Your Day
New Haven County runs on long days: hospital and lab work, teaching, manufacturing, classes, and commutes on I-95, I-91 and Route 8. Daytime appointments often mean choosing between care and everything else. Appointments run 6:00 PM – midnight ET. Evenings include Fridays and Sundays. A visit can happen after a shift, after a class, or after the children are in bed.
For Students and Young Adults
The county is home to many college and graduate students, and evening visits fit around a full academic schedule. Two details help. First, you need to be physically in Connecticut at the time of each session, so if you travel home to another state for a break, plan your visits for when you are back. Second, if you are covered on a parent's plan from another state, check the list below; it includes Blue Cross Blue Shield plans from other states.
Towns Across the County
Care reaches every town in the region by secure video, with no parking, traffic or waiting room.

Awareness Is the First Step in Healing
A full evaluation, then a plan you help design
Care begins with a full evaluation, 60 to 90 minutes, that looks at how your brain and body are working together: sleep, stress, attention, mood, health history and the changes you want to make. You and Michael then design a plan that may include medication when it helps, supportive therapy, and lifestyle foundations like sleep, movement and nutrition, because each of these shapes brain biology.
A. Michael Crook, MSN, APRN, PMHNP-BC, is a Board-Certified Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner licensed in Connecticut. If you have been searching for a psychiatrist in New Haven County, it may help to know that in Connecticut a psychiatric nurse practitioner independently evaluates, diagnoses, prescribes medication and provides therapy. Michael's work starts from brain biology: your struggles aren't character flaws, and every brain can heal, grow and change.

Focus, Calm and Evening Care
Building Focus Without Stimulants describes non-stimulant ADHD care that strengthens focus with options that are not controlled substances, an approach many students and families prefer. Lasting Calm, Built on Brain Biology describes anxiety and panic care without benzodiazepines, using non-addictive medication and nervous-system regulation skills. Care That Fits Your Evening explains how every appointment fits after the day is done. No controlled substances are prescribed in this practice, by design.
For Children, Teens, Adults and Older Adults
Michael sees children, adolescents, adults and older adults. A parent or guardian is part of care for younger clients. Care can also focus on what you are working through, such as worry, low mood, sleep or stress, without a diagnostic label.
