Questions People Ask

Straight answers, no labels required

Do I need a psychiatrist, or can an online psychiatric nurse practitioner in Connecticut prescribe medication?
In Connecticut, a board-certified psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner (PMHNP) independently evaluates, diagnoses, prescribes medication, and provides therapy — the core services people search for under “telehealth psychiatrist Connecticut.” Your struggles aren’t character flaws — they’re brain biology, and our brains can change; the credential on the door matters less than the science behind the care. The one structural difference here: no controlled substances are prescribed in this practice, by design.
Can ADHD be treated without stimulant medication?
Yes. I provide non-stimulant ADHD treatment using evidence-based medications alongside sleep, exercise, and behavioral strategies that improve focus by working with your brain’s own regulatory systems. I do not prescribe controlled substances of any kind, so care never depends on a stimulant.
Can anxiety or panic be treated without benzodiazepines?
Yes. Benzo-free anxiety care is a core part of this practice. Effective non-addictive medications, nervous-system regulation skills, and targeted lifestyle interventions treat anxiety and panic at the level of brain biology — without dependence risk.
I don’t want a psychiatric label. Can I still get help?
Absolutely. I am not here to label you. Diagnoses are billing language, not identities. Your brain is a physical organ — and like any organ, it can heal and change. We focus on relieving the struggles you face now — low mood, persistent worry, trauma responses, intrusive thoughts, sleep problems — and on building long-term resilience.
Do you work with people in recovery from alcohol or substance use?
Yes — and because no controlled substances are prescribed in this practice, people in recovery can receive full psychiatric care for depression, anxiety, trauma, and sleep without exposure to habit-forming medications.
How does telehealth psychiatric evaluation work in Connecticut?
All care is delivered by secure video to patients located in Connecticut. An initial evaluation runs 60–90 minutes — unhurried and comprehensive. Follow-ups are 30 or 60 minutes. Evening appointments run until midnight, five nights a week — hours almost no Connecticut prescriber offers, built for night-shift and healthcare workers, and for parents who can only meet after bedtime.
Do you accept insurance?
Yes. Plans include UnitedHealthcare/Oscar (Optum), Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield, Carelon Behavioral Health, Aetna, Cigna, Horizon BCBS of New Jersey, Independence Blue Cross Pennsylvania, and Quest Behavioral Health. Private-pay is also available (initial evaluation $425, superbill provided for out-of-network reimbursement).
Do you see children and adolescents?
Yes — children and adolescents are welcome, with parent or guardian involvement, for concerns including school anxiety, mood changes, attention difficulties, and life transitions.
